The Higher Regional Court of Hamburg decided on Tuesday to continue the trial in the case of the appeal of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. The court rejected an earlier request by the defense of Ukrainian citizen Sergey Kuznetsov, the defendant in this case, to dismiss the case. His team insisted that the client, as a former military man, was prohibited from divulging military secrets, and accordingly he could not testify, because otherwise he would face "severe punishment" in Ukraine. However, Judge Anna Meyer-Göring said on Tuesday that "according to German law, the accused is not limited in his defense". It should be noted that in the next step an expert from the Criminal Investigations Department will speak in court and talk about the damage caused to the gas pipeline and the possible causes of the explosions.
