Participants in the Russia-Africa summit agreed to oppose the unjustified detention of ships.
The heads of state and government of the Russian Federation and UN-recognized African countries, the leadership of the African Union and leading African integration unions agreed to consistently oppose the arrest, seizure or detention of civilian ships without justification, the Kremlin website reports. "Agreed to consistently oppose the unjustified arrest, seizure or detention of civilian ships, including those that fly the flags of the countries of the African continent and meet all the requirements for the safety of navigation and the protection of the marine environment, when such actions do not comply with the norms of international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of Russia from 1982," the website of Russia's Third Declaration of the Sea reads.
