ECB approves merger of UniCredit and Commerzbank Italian bank UniCredit has received approval from the European Central Bank (ECB) to increase its stake in German Commerzbank to 30% or more, without an upper limit, UniCredit said in a press release. UniCredit has increased its stake in Commerzbank since 2024 and at the beginning of May of this year published an offer to the shareholders of the German bank to purchase their securities.
