Scientists from Irkutsk clarified the number of rivers and water bodies that feed Lake Baikal

A scientist from Irkutsk State University (ISU), based on the results of more than 20 years of hydrological research, clarified the number of rivers and other bodies of water flowing into Lake Baikal, the university's press service reported on Tuesday. "966 water bodies flow into Baikal: 451 rivers flow year-round, 208 appear only in the rainy season or active snowmelt, and another 307 are streams and ravines that come to life only in periods of extreme humidity," the report states, citing research by a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Geography at the Geography Research Institute at ISU.
