Lukashenko denied the accusations of continued repression in Belarus
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, in a meeting with US special envoy for Belarus John Cole in Minsk, called the statements that in the republic more people are detained under articles of extremism than released incorrect. "There was a lot of talk before our meeting here about releasing, as you call them, political prisoners. (...) Our fugitives are spreading the news in the West and you, I feel, according to my information, are convinced that we are freeing someone here, but, continuing the repression, we are arresting twice as many people in this place.
