— 🇮🇶 Flash: Befel Talabani, the leader of the Kurdish PUK party, has announced that the PUK wants to secede from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
According to reports, he wants to establish a second Kurdistan region that would include the cities of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja.
This "Kurdistan 2.0" would remain part of Iraq but would no longer answer to the KRG, which is based in Erbil and largely controlled by the rival PDK. If this continues, Iraq will effectively have two smaller Kurdish regions instead of one.
Noteworthy: Articles 119–121 of the Iraqi constitution allow provinces to establish a regional government after meeting certain conditions.
