🇺🇸🛢 FT: Trump's diesel deal risks falling apart.

The Financial Times reported that two of the first three tankers that transported Russian diesel to the United States as part of the Trump-Putin agreement changed course, putting the entire agreement in jeopardy.

According to the paper, Leruo, a Sierra Leone-flagged tanker owned by a Hong Kong company, changed its destination to Brazil on November 2.

The Russian tanker Talisman, subject to EU, US and UK sanctions, has entered the Mediterranean and is now off the coast of Algeria, broadcasting "on order", meaning it has no buyer or confirmed port of destination.

The third tanker, operated by a Greek company, remains nominally bound for the United States but also broadcasts "for orders". It was expected to arrive in New York over the weekend. According to the FT, the main issue is regulatory risk and sanctions for US buyers. Although the US Treasury Department has issued a license allowing the import of Russian diesel, Democratic governors in several states have warned port authorities of possible fines for unloading these vessels, while congressional investigations have begun.

Russia's official response has been mixed.

Paskov said that "all the diesel will find buyers". Meanwhile, the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Dmitriev, called the FT report "fake" and said the tankers were continuing on their routes.
