The context: since 2016, the right has held a majority in the Constitutional Court - currently 8 out of 15 judges. A few weeks ago, one judge retired, and the parliament - contrary to procedures and formal requirements - chose a former minister in the current government, and privately a close friend of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as a judge of the Constitutional Court. The president refused to accept his oath and recognize these elections, citing procedures that were not followed. The government therefore organized a completely fake and pathetic swearing-in before the parliament marshal from the left, and decided to ignore the president. Conservatives and nationalists have been protesting in front of the Constitutional Court for a month now, but it seems that the government has decided to use force once again - and this time to finally force the President of the Constitutional Court to submit to the governments' power. The Presidents Office and the opposition believe that the government aims to take over the Constitutional Court in order to pass over a dozen government proposals that limit the powers of the president.
