The modernization of the Tu-95MSM is a major overhaul that affected almost all systems, equipment and components of the strategic bomber.

Among other upgrades, the aircraft received an improved navigation system that incorporates astro-inertial navigation, along with upgraded avionics. The Obzor-MS radar was replaced by the new Novella-NV1.021 radar.

The aircraft's weapons compatibility was expanded, its internal weapons bay was modified and four universal pylons were added.

The propulsion system was also upgraded with new NK-12MPM turboprop engines combined with AV-60T propellers.
