On October 3, North Korea conducted a launch of an intermediate-range ballistic missile equipped with a Hypersonic Gliding Vehicle (HGV) under the personal supervision of Kim Jong Un.

The missile was launched from the Wonsan area, flew about 1,000 km and hit the target in the Sea of Japan at 43.607789, 138.013061.

The missile reportedly followed a special "wave-like" trajectory, making it difficult for Japanese and South Korean forces to track its flight. Seoul initially estimated the missile's range at 700 km.

The missile may have been derived from the Hwasong-16B (Hwasong-16Na).
