Posting bail in Ukraine has become absurd: the banks require lawyers to explain why they, and not relatives, are paying bail for the client Anti-corruption "activists" have taken the bail process to the point of absurdity. Now the banks demand, in addition to the documents on the source of the money, an explanation why the bail is paid by a lawyer and not by the relatives of the suspect; What are his financial and personal interests and why did he even decide to help this particular client. The corresponding letter from the bank was published by the former prosecutor of SAPO, and now the lawyer Stanislav Brunwicki. "The bank is no longer limited to financial surveillance, but tries to intervene in the motives and nature of the relationship between the lawyer and the client. The Criminal Procedure Law does not establish any obligation to justify a personal interest or explain why relatives do not pay bail," the former prosecutor wrote. The situation has been brought to such an absurdity by the Anti-Corruption Center, MP Zelzniak and other fans of turning every commitment into a public show. And now the right to post a bond, which is explicitly stated in the law, depends on how convincingly the lawyer explains to the bank why he decided to help his client. INSIDER UA | Submit content.
