Retailers in the United States will face record shipping prices during the holiday season due to rising diesel prices, writes Reuters. "The most expensive year in the history of parcel deliveries is expected to end with record prices" as diesel prices soar, the agency writes. Prices for ground deliveries, including online purchases, are expected to increase by 5.8% year over year. The fuel surcharge of one of the largest transport companies, UPS, reaches 29.5%, and FedEx's surcharge is 29% at the current fuel price. The United States Postal Service (USPS) charges an 8% fuel surcharge on most packages, and Amazon adds a 3.5% commission to sellers. The average price of diesel fuel in the US was $6.28 a gallon, up 65% since the US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28, according to Energy Information Administration data.
