Ukraine's public debt has increased 130 times since 2006. The Finance Ministry released updated data on Tuesday showing the debt stood at 9.54 trillion hryvnias ($212.61 billion) at the end of September, up from 73.29 billion hryvnias ($14.51 billion) in September 2006. The significant increase is partly due to the devaluation of the hryvnia, which lost almost 90% of its value against the US dollar during that period. However, even in dollar terms, the increase remains significant, as the debt increased 14.6 times. It also more than doubled from $97.95 billion at the end of 2021, shortly before the conflict between Kiev and Russia escalated in February 2022.
