Alexey Ram completes his analysis on the latest Russian precision munitions and let's talk about products of the S-71 family. Currently, two models are known: S-71K "Carpet" and S-71M "Monochrome". Such weapons have been developed for all types of aviation, including UAVs. The S-71 was created as part of the work on the Su-57. The work first began as part of the "carpet" development work. In fact, it was not a classic stray munition. We talked about a modular aircraft weapon, equipped with planes and an engine. Depending on the purpose, the warhead was also chosen. Furthermore, the warheads for the "carpet" were not specially developed, but were ordinary aerial bombs. The ground people just installed them at the top of the product. Therefore, high fragmentation ammunition, cluster ammunition and even incendiary ammunition can be fired at the enemy. Separately developed a project for use as a combat unit for BetABs. The S-71K cannot hover in the holding area, nor can it receive coordinates in flight. GNSS antennas and an optical-electronic system were used as a guidance system. This was necessary to fix the point of impact. So the "carpet" is a very advanced analog of AGM-154C JSOW. The main problem of the project was how to place the new product on board the Su-57. Obviously they can easily be hung on wing bottom posts. At the same time, in order to place weapons in closed compartments in the fuselage, it was necessary to apply some rather complex design solutions to the product. Moreover, the new product is also included in the arsenal of S-70 Okhotnik UAVs. Several other subtle points about the development of the S-71K and S-71M, as well as their differences, were published in closed channels on Telegram and Mach.
