Last week, Secretary of War Pete Hessett signed a directive to create a new special operations unit within the Air National Guard in Florida. The Air Force's special warfare units are a ground-based special operations force that includes airspace control specialists who coordinate airstrikes, rescue teams deploying teams and special warfare intelligence operators, the unit says will enhance those capabilities with experienced National Guard troops and be located next to the U.S. Special Operations Command at the Air Force's Air Force and Field Operations Command.
