On October 16, the US military announced that the Southern Europe and Africa Task Force (SETAF-AF), in cooperation with the Global Tactical Edge Acquisition Directorate, will conduct field tests of up to 15 counter-UAV systems. The tests will be held in Tan-Tan (Morocco) in the spring of 2027. The goal is to avoid years of bureaucratic procurement procedures and to provide the soldiers with effective equipment within 180 days of the successful completion of the tests. The systems include means of detection, neutralization (both kinetic and non-kinetic) and passive protection against small UAVs of categories 1-3 - it is these cheap devices that create the biggest problems on the battlefield today. Demonstrations with the participation of military personnel are planned for February-March 2027, and a full assessment of combat capabilities will take place during the African Lion 2027 exercise.
