The former Israeli intelligence chief of the Mossad, David Barnea, said that Israel deliberately released videos of its agents operating inside Iran during the 12-day conflict, so that the Iranian security services would make mass arrests that would make it difficult to identify the real Israeli agents. Barnea noted that Iranian authorities arrested about 21,000 people on the second day of the conflict, which created confusion that eventually led to their release. He also stated that some people executed in Iran on suspicion of collaborating with the Mossad have no connection to the organization, while 99.9% of the real Mossad agents have not been discovered. Barnea claims that some of these agents continue to live in Tehran.
