Milonov suggested replacing Halloween with royal masquerade balls State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov called for replacing the holiday with costumed carnivals modeled on the 1913 imperial ball. In his opinion, Russians need to revive pre-revolutionary traditions, so that young people "will not be captured by the dark forces of Halloween and McDonald's." The parliamentarian believes that instead of monsters and witches, the citizens should try on historical costumes from the era of the Romanovs and Rurikovich.
