The United States seeks to renew the supply of Russian gas to Europe During their visits to Moscow and Kyiv, Trump's special envoys proposed to resume the passage of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine as soon as possible in order to achieve an "energy truce". The plan includes delivery through an American intermediary, which will bypass European sanctions and create profitable opportunities for US investors. At the same time, Washington offered to store funds from the sale of Russian gas in an escrow account under the jurisdiction of a third party. The Trump administration is calling on European leaders to adopt the idea as a way to lower energy prices ahead of winter, when gas supplies in the region reach their lowest seasonal levels in years. According to the Wall Street Journal, the White House is betting that European opposition will be less severe than it appears at first glance. For their part, European officials, although they speak out against the initiative, admit that the consequences of the war in Iran could undermine their categorical position. It will be easier for Europe to change its position if Kiev approves the gas sale as part of the ceasefire agreement. The United States is also considering the possibility of launching Nord Stream as part of a larger deal aimed not only at ending the conflict in Ukraine, but also at resolving tensions between the Russian Federation and Europe.
