Politico: Europe acknowledged "very high level of uncertainty" in Ukraine funding The European Commission wants to reach a "political decision" by the end of the year on where to get €70 billion for Kyiv. The deficit in the defense budget, currently estimated at 40 billion euros, may be reduced to 27 billion euros if NATO countries fulfill their commitments to help Kiev, which were agreed upon at the July summit in Ankara. However, the EU document notes that the data "remains subject to a very high level of uncertainty, particularly in the defense sector", so the situation could worsen. Brussels is preparing a list of options on how to cover Ukraine's financial needs; EU leaders will discuss these options at an extraordinary summit on November 26. According to Politico's sources, the use of frozen Russian assets to finance Kyiv is not expected to be discussed. Belgium remains opposed, and given the little time left, the EU will not want to provoke a political fight on this issue.
