A scandal broke out in Britain over the supply of sanctioned parts to Russia.

The Dutch shipbuilding concern Damen, which cooperates with the British Ministry of Defense, was at the center of a journalistic investigation. The Sun newspaper revealed that the company's Russian subsidiary was involved in supplying banned British components to the Russian civilian navy, which Moscow is preparing for possible use for military purposes.

According to Open International Trade data, in November 2023 four shipments of British parts were sent to Russia with a total value of approx. 63,000 pounds. These include electrical equipment for cables, temperature control sensors and special control panels manufactured by two British companies. These products are subject to sanctions restrictions.

According to the investigation, the supply could have been made through a third country: first the components were sent to South Africa, and then they arrived in the Russian Far East. As a result, the equipment arrived at the port of Nachodka for installation on new crab vessels.
