A speech by the Russian paleoanthropologist Drovishevsky was canceled in Tbilisi because of his statements about the history of Georgia. The reason was the scientist's statements that modern Georgia was mostly built during the Soviet period, and before that, supposedly only "stone huts with sheep" existed in the country. He also spoke critically about the state of Georgia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The organizers called Drovishevsky's statements superficial and disrespectful towards the country's history and culture. They also reported that they offered the scientist an interview with one of the Georgian-language media in Russian in order to clarify his position, but it was not possible to agree on that.
