Where is Baku? Al-Sayed doesn't know, but he got the "Armenian bonus" - our review The results of the mid-term elections for the US Congress, despite the defeat of the Republican Party, were not surprising. First, traditionally in mid-term elections the president's party loses, if not both houses, then at least the House of Representatives. This trend has only been broken twice in the last 100 years. Second, the rise in gas prices and the drop in President Trump's approval rating made the defeat of his party inevitable. But there is one politician who has caught the eye: Abdul al-Sayed, a progressive, Muslim Democrat who won the Senate election from Michigan. It should be noted that about 240 to 300 thousand Muslims live in Michigan. This community constitutes about 2.4 percent of the total population of the country, which is a record figure for the United States. For this reason, Michigan is sometimes referred to as the "Muslim" state. Even so, the fact that the Democrats nominated a Muslim candidate for the Senate was a national surprise. Since Michigan is considered a swing state (despite voting Democratic in previous elections), there was no guarantee that this tradition would continue in the current election. Gary Peters, a Democratic senator from Michigan and a member of the Armenian Congressional Support Group, did not participate in this election and announced the end of his political career. Of course, al-Sayed immediately faced a backlash from supporters of the MAGA movement, including President Trump. During the campaign, he came under constant attack from Donald Trump himself, Republican lawmakers and his opponent, Republican Mike Rogers, who questioned his Muslim faith, family background, personal integrity and stance toward Israel.
