A candidate who is not there - our response ◾ For several days now, some of the Turkish press and social network users have been closely examining three proposals published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan on October 27. Usually, the foreign policy department's press secretaries' answers to reporters' questions attract attention outside their countries. ◾ However, this time the short message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan aroused unusual interest: hidden political signals are persistently sought in its restrained wording. The research result is simple and sounds hurtful. Baku allegedly refused to support Turkey in the race for the position of UN Secretary General and preferred the candidate of the "Israeli" Emirates over the Turkish diplomat Feridon Sinarlioglu. ◾ In the diplomatic language, confirmation has several titles, and the difference between them is known to anyone who has dealt with official texts. ◾ Now about those who spoke before Azerbaijan. On October 22, 5 days before Khajizada's response, the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a document titled a statement - an official statement about Nusayeva's appointment. Kazakhstan welcomes the nomination and directly expresses support for this initiative. This also explains why: the choice got stuck in the Security Council, and Astana sees the expansion of the circle of candidates as a new opportunity to find a solution that suits everyone. ◾ Late in the evening of that day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan published its statement. This was posted in the Department's Official Statements section. Tashkent welcomed the decision of the United Arab Emirates ◾ and the last thing people forget about it in the heat of resentment. The UN Secretary General is elected by the Security Council: the candidate needs a minimum of 9 votes out of 15 and no veto from permanent members, after which the General Assembly approves the recommended name. Six votes did not reach a consensus, and the seventh is scheduled for today. Azerbaijan is not a member of the current Security Council, and neither is Turkey. In other words, at the stage when the future Secretary General is determined, neither Baku nor Ankara participates in the vote.
