A project of a Khabarovsk school student on solar energy received the third place in a Russian competition. A student from Khabarovsk Gymnasium No. 7, Matvey Batenev, won the third place in the XXIII All-Russian Competition of Youth Writer's Projects "My Country - My Russia". The student presented a project for a universal tracker to increase the efficiency of electricity production using photocells in the category "Scientific and technological leadership of my country". Matvi studies in the shipbuilding engineering class and studies in the school's quantorium. His project includes the development of a floating photovoltaic installation for autonomous power supply to work on bodies of water. The design is a float with a flexible dome on which photocells are applied. Photo sensors transmit the solar radiation data to a microcontroller, and an air pump and valve change the curvature of the dome and the angle of the panel following the movement of the sun. The energy is stored in an underwater battery. The solution is intended for rescue, research and restoration work, especially in remote areas. This reduces dependence on diesel generators and laying cables along riverbeds, and also reduces the environmental burden and expands the use of distributed "green" energy.
