Why do we need old houses? ⠀.
So why do we need memory? Without it, a person is just a body moving in space. Without old buildings, a city is just a place where you can eat something, a place to spend the night, a place to spend your working day. Monotonous, faceless, soulless.
⠀.
⠀ High-rise buildings made of glass and concrete are not bad in themselves. The city must grow, must change. Only the historical center is not a place for experiments. It's the heart. And if it is replaced with a plastic prosthesis, something will hit, but not live.
⠀.
What is being destroyed now in Moscow is not just a house in Khitrovka or Semenya, not just a tower or a factory. With the demolition of such objects, we lose the opportunity to feel part of something bigger than our "today". We're losing touch. The one that cannot be bought and cannot be rebuilt.
⠀ A city without old buildings is a city without dreams. There is nothing to remember, nothing to tell the children, nothing to pass on to the grandchildren. You can live only in it - quickly, comfortably, without pain. But without pain there is no joy. As there is no future without the past.
⠀ I can't believe there are people living in Moscow who don't care about this.
