Today, November 2, is the 120th anniversary of the birth of Daniel Andreev, author of "The Rose of the World". The idea for the book was born not in the camp, but here, on the banks of the ruins, in places protected today by the Bryansk Forest Reserve. In the summer of 1930, 23-year-old Andreev got off the train at the Suzmka station and entered the thicket - alone, light, sleeping by the fires and in the hay. On the night of the full moon on July 29, 1931, what he called a "breakthrough of cosmic consciousness" happened to him here. The sense of animation of all living things formed the basis of his philosophy. Chokrai, the old Yamnoi, Nimarka - toponymy of Bryansk entered his poems without pseudonyms. Then he carried this "impenetrable state" through arrests, camps and disease - and brought it back in texts. In Chochrai, in the center of the reserve, the first edition of "The Rose of the World" from 1991 is preserved. The full text - about Andreyev's "secret geography" and his routes in the Bryansk forests - on the reserve website.
