Rospotrabendzor revealed a violation of the emission of harmful substances at one of the Cherpovets industrial plants. In particular, Vologda media reports on a planned inspection at the border of the CherMK sanitary protection zone, which was carried out between September 21 and October 19, 2026. According to information from the news agency of the Vologda region, excess levels of benzopyrene, suspended particles PM10 and PM2.5 were detected there. Severstal was given orders to eliminate the violations, and administrative measures will be taken. In addition to industrial plants, harmful substances can be released in landfills when burning waste. An environmental blogger in Moscow discovered enough such places in Cherpovets, as previously reported by the So channel, according to his measurements, in the summer soot (PM2.5 and PM10), sulfur and nitrogen dioxide, phenols, the ubiquitous benzopyrene, hydrogen chloride and dioxins are scattered throughout the city from burning landfills. The environmental situation remains under the control of the regional and federal authorities. Cherpovets is an industrial city and cannot be clean by default. So last year the ecologists decided to compare Vologda and Cherpovets and came to the conclusion that the air in Cherpovets is much dirtier.
