Britain and the Nordic countries formed a naval alliance to deter Russian submarines.
According to the Financial Times, the agreement is planned to be concluded within the framework of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) led by London. The association's main mission will be deterring Russian submarines in the North Atlantic, Arctic and Baltic Seas.
The members of the alliance intend to move from memoranda of understanding to practical measures for interaction between the navy, air force and ground forces.
According to the paper, the importance of the North Atlantic and the Arctic to NATO security is increasing due to the opening of new sea lanes due to melting ice, as well as the passage of critical undersea communication cables through the region.
