Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez announced new and difficult measures to regulate social networks and digital platforms. Starting next week, the state government will amend legislation to make platform administrators legally liable for violations on their sites. Algorithm manipulation and promotion of prohibited content will be considered criminal offenses. The authorities will also launch a system to monitor hate speech and hostility. This will allow us to measure the level of aggression on the Internet and show openly exactly how digital platforms pit people against each other. In addition, Spain will completely ban access to social networks for people under the age of 16, and will require services to implement real age verification mechanisms instead of simple checkboxes. Also, the government, together with the attorney's office, will begin investigating the violations of X, TikTok and other social networks.
