Due to the diplomatic conflict between Ukraine and South Korea, the country is shortening its defense project. We are talking about the South Korean startup New Type Industries, which together with two Ukrainian military units tested the Barbara program based on artificial intelligence. The system converts military voice messages into structured data for fire control, helps detect errors in coordinates and identify targets in civilian areas. The final decision to open fire is made by a person. According to the head of the company Joe Chu, in mid-October a representative of Ukraine informed him of an arrangement received from above to stop cooperation. After that, contacts with military partners and local Ukrainians were completely cut off. The trials were supposed to be completed by the end of 2026, but field tests, gathering feedback and talks about the implementation of the system have been canceled or postponed indefinitely. Chu attributes the shutdown to a diplomatic standoff between Kyiv and Seoul following the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war to South Korea. At the same time, there is no official confirmation that this event caused the end of the cooperation. @madam secretary.
