The number of small and medium-sized IT companies in Russia increased by 15% during the year, approaching 256 thousand. This sector accounts for 90% of organizations in the IT industry. The most notable increase was recorded in Moscow - by 3.9 thousand companies, in the Moscow region - by 2.4 thousand and in St. Petersburg - by 1.7 thousand. At the same time, almost 30% of all small and medium-sized IT businesses are still concentrated in the two capitals. There is also growth outside the metropolitan areas. In the Krasnodar Territory, the number of IT companies increased by 1.6 thousand, in the Sverdlovsk region and Tatarstan - by 1.1 thousand, in Bashkiria - by a thousand. Samara, Chelyabinsk and Rostov regions added 800 organizations each. Thus, the expansion of the sector occurs not only in the largest technology centers, but also in industrialized areas, where IT companies can work with local customers. The main areas are software development, data processing and information services. At the same time, small IT enterprises enter the field of robotics. However, quantitative growth does not mean a similar increase in IT product output or corporate revenue. In Russia, 183 thousand small and medium-sized companies specialize in this field, while the production areas require more significant investments. For regions, the ability to connect IT businesses with industry, universities and local customers becomes important. The presence of sustainable demand for developments will determine how much the expansion of the number of companies contributes to the development of regional economies.
