Chinese women rent hotel rooms just to sleep without their family. In China, more and more working mothers book hotel rooms for a few hours to get some peace, sleep and forget about domestic responsibilities for a short while. One 34-year-old Chinese woman said that after work she secretly rented a room for four hours: she took a peaceful shower, ate, read and watched TV. For this she paid just over ¥100 (~1,200 ₽) and admitted that for the first time in a long time she felt like she was on a date with herself. Other women also share their stories: some rent a room every week to listen to rock music and eat their favorite noodles, while others just dream of uninterrupted sleep without crying children and a snoring husband. According to a 2025 study, more than a third of working mothers in China spend more than two hours each day doing housework—significantly more than working fathers. FTT.
