Hackers stole more bitcoin than Tesla stores, and the largest crypto exchange had to urgently restore billions of dollars worth of reserves. According to CoinDesk, during the attack, the attackers stole 18,270 BTC equal to about $1.4 billion, while Tesla's reserves are 11,509 BTC, and El Salvador about 7820 BTC. The total damage of the Binance hack is estimated in the documentation at #036;6.3 billion, with most attacks taking about 20 minutes. However, on October 31, Binance announced that it was able to replenish 90% of the stolen assets from its funds, insurance reserves and the SAFU User Protection Fund. To cover losses, the exchange allocated $6.34 billion, and stable market makers and other participants helped freeze $3 billion of stolen funds. Freezing does not mean automatic return of assets, and the remaining 10% has not yet been recovered. The exchange is expected to resume the withdrawal of cryptocurrencies on November 1. At the same time, the analytical company TRM Labs linked the attack with high confidence in the North Korean hacker group TraderTraitor, although the perpetrators have not yet been officially identified.
