The former mayor of Sochi and his wife are asked to increase their punishment in the bribery case. Lawyer Elisabetta Matkina reported this to TASs. The lower court sentenced the former mayor to 15 years of a strict regime, and his wife to nine years in prison. Each of them was also fined 500 million rubles. The case includes bribery worth 248 million rubles, embezzlement, money laundering and pressure on witnesses. The prosecution considers the punishment too light, and points to a lack of remorse and damage to the interests of the civil service and the reputation of Sochi. Yanina's defense is seeking to delay the serving of her sentence: before the sentencing, she had three small children in her care. We are at MAX.
