The French Parliament approved a tax on Internet traffic for Google, Netflix, Amazon, Meta and other platforms: 0.055 euros for each gigabyte transferred to French users. The authors of the amendment expect to collect about 10 billion euros a year. The amendment was accepted by 11 votes against 10 in an almost empty hall. If companies pass the tax on to users, a family of four who watches about 200 hours of video a month will pay about 366 euros (33,000 rubles) a year, media outlets in France have calculated. The tax has not yet been finally adopted: the Senate must support it, but the government opposes it.
