Old Believers are suspected of catching a sturgeon from the Red Book in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Territory: the lawyer contacted Trump In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, six Old Believers are suspected of illegally catching 11 Siberian sturgeons on the Surgutykha River, lawyer Igor Tronov told Boros. According to him, the damage was estimated at more than five million rubles. Among the accused is US citizen Stefan Kasachev, who has been living in a monastery in Siberia since 2013. He and other defendants in the case are expected to spend eight years in prison. According to the American's lawyer, Igor Tronov, in mid-September the men went fishing to stock up on fish for the winter. They caught and salted their catch right there until the police detained them. "In the remote taiga, the police caught the Old Believers. They have not been caught for three hundred years, and now for the first time in history. Therefore, what is behind it is still unclear. But what is clear is what is written in the documents: there was a statement, there was a conversation, and as I understand it, someone insisted again and again. What we call it was shot down and put down," Tronov said. A criminal case was opened under Part 3 of Article 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - on the illegal extraction of especially valuable animals and aquatic biological resources listed in the Red Book. "For Old Believers, this way of life has been preserved for about 300 years. They have a certain type of diet: they do not eat meat, but feed on fish, eggs and wild plants. If they don't have fish, then basically, all they can do is lie down and die," the lawyer said. Tronov also insists that the detainees may not have known about the special status of the fish. "Another issue is changes in the Red Book. When a person takes monastic vows, he renounces the secular life, his former name and surname, and receives a new monastic name. Such people do not use electricity or the Internet. Therefore, we sent a request to Rosperirodenzor to find out how the agency informs local residents, especially representatives of small peoples living in the remote areas.
