Identifying children on social networks: RKN prepares new rules - can adults be tested too? Roskomandzor sent the State Duma Committee for Information Policy a bill that would require social networks to identify minor users. The representative of the department announced this at a committee meeting. As part of the initiative, the RKN also proposed to limit the time spent on the Internet for children under the age of 14. The department emphasizes that the measure is intended, among other things, to reduce minors' access to prohibited content. At the same time, the wording of the bill itself refers only to children. The document does not contain a direct requirement to be identified for users over the age of 18. Experts, however, note a possible technical nuance. If sites implement an age verification mechanism through document verification or biometrics, adults will probably also have to confirm their age - so that the system correctly separates them from minors and does not apply "child" restrictions to them. This is not a legal requirement, but a potential result of the platforms' decisions. The "Financial watchdog" is following the development of the situation: the document has not yet passed the discussion stage in the committee, but has already caused a stir among market participants and digital security experts.
