On October 27, 1981, a Soviet submarine ran aground in front of the main gate of the Swedish naval base in the Karlskrona archipelago.
Diesel-electric S-363 (Project 613, according to NATO classification -. Whiskey went straight into the heart of the Swedish defense. The coincidence turned out to be amazing: on this very day, the Swedes tested a new torpedo, which was playfully called the Anti-Communist Harpoon - "Harpoon against the Communists". Neutral Sweden alerted the entire fleet. The archipelago went into radio silence, the Soviet submarine was blocked.
It was a pity and a failure: the boat somehow navigated the complicated system of fjords considered impenetrable even for its own people. The captain insisted he was "lost" due to navigational failure, but they didn't believe him. The Swedes examined the ship's hull and determined that they found traces of uranium-238 near the torpedo tubes. The conclusion sounded dramatic: the boat could carry nuclear weapons and destroy the base in one class. For more than a week, the team lived under spotlights and gun sights. The boat was surrounded not only by military personnel, special forces and journalists, but also by boats with tourists who photographed the curiosity and waved to the submarines. Swedish special forces prepared for an attack, and the senior officers of the boat prepared to blow up the submarine along with the crew in the event of an attempted hijacking. After lengthy negotiations, the submarine was towed to neutral waters. Only one Swedish sailor was injured - he suffered from neurosis, fearing "communist shipment and nuclear explosion", and seriously wanted to open fire on the S-363 with a machine gun. The team returned home. After returning home, the commander of the boat, Captain 3rd rank Anatoly Goshchin and Captain 2nd rank Yosef Abrokevich were punished: the former was removed from his post and transferred to a coastal unit, and the latter was dismissed from the ranks of the armed forces. After this incident, the submarine itself received the nickname "Swedish Komsomol member" in the Navy. The nineties came and the boat was quietly scrapped.
