In Russia, 53.6% of families with two working adults and two children can rent a two-room apartment and cover daily expenses. During the year, the figure increased by 3.5%, an improvement was recorded in 81 regions. At the same time, the required family income reached 131 thousand rubles a month compared to less than 80 thousand in 2019. The top three were Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (77.5%), Yamal-Nents Autonomous Okrug (77.4%) and Magdan Region (72.1%). It is followed by Tatarstan (66.7%), Sakhalin Region (66.4%), Nenets Autonomous Okrug (66%), Murmansk Region (65.5%) and Chukotka (64.8%). High salaries in the northern regions even compensate for significant housing costs: in the Magdan region a family needs almost 209 thousand rubles for rent and basic expenses, in Chukotka - about 288 thousand. At the opposite pole are Chechnya (14.4%), Ingushetia (19.1%), Kabardino-Balkaria (22.5%) and Dagestan (23.1%). Low probability here is mostly related to income and not just rental rates. Russia's average increase in affordability does not mean cheaper rent. The gap between the subjects shows that the ratio between income and mandatory expenses is the determining factor, and not the price of the apartment itself.
