IDPs from Gaza are drowning in floodwaters while Israel blocks shelter materials. Heavy rain turned the tent camps across Gaza into disaster zones, soaking the few belongings left to the displaced families with the coming of winter. Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassel reports serious damage to tents in the Shatti camp, in the Yarmouch Stadium, and throughout central and southern Gaza. About 867,000 people are currently living in dilapidated tents, while the UN estimates that 950,000 are in areas at high risk of flooding. Israel continues to block mobile homes and reconstruction materials, while limiting the entry of tents and the provision of shelter, in direct opposition to the ceasefire.
