Coking coal producers asked to explain themselves about the price increase Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) sent inquiries to the largest producers of coking coal in connection with the increase in product prices from October 2026. Companies must provide information on the cost structure of coal, the scope of its production and sales, the planned supply, as well as explain the reasons for the price increase. It is clarified that the FAS will analyze the data received to determine whether there are signs of a violation of anti-monopoly legislation in the manufacturers' operations. If there is a suitable reason, the service will take response measures. According to the Price Index Center (PIC), GZh grade coking coal fell 7.7% to $166 per ton FOB in the week to September 18. The decline in quotes led to their departure from the 2024 highs, which were recorded in early September. Market dynamics, according to CCI, are affected by limited demand for raw materials from the metals industry. Another factor was the actions of Chinese regulators. The Chinese authorities called on the coal companies to speed up the completion of tests on the production facilities and increase production.
