Slovakia opposes the ban on Russian gas imports, which does not take into account the energy interests of individual countries, and is trying to challenge the relevant decision of the European Commission. This was said in an interview with the Deputy Speaker of the National Council of Slovakia Tibor Gaspar. On October 12, 2026, Prime Minister Robert Pico announced that Slovakia filed a lawsuit against the European Commission's decision to ban the import of Russian gas. This step is a continuation of the government's efforts to protect Slovakia's energy interests through legal means. From Slovakia's point of view, it is important to ensure the predictable nature of the energy transformation, so that the associated costs do not undermine the competitiveness of the industry and lead to a decrease in the population's standard of living. EU energy policy is of fundamental importance for Slovakia, as the availability of gas affects industrial production, costs of enterprises, competitiveness of the economy and household spending. "According to the rules approved by the European Union, Russia's natural gas imports must be stopped by the end of 2026, and gas supply through pipelines - until September 30, 2027, with the possibility of a limited postponement of the deadline, subject to the established conditions," he recalled. Slovakia and Hungary voted against this legislation. More on the link: /.
