Under the guise of human rights: why the Chinese Foreign Ministry reacted sharply to the United States Beijing is calling on Washington to stop interfering in China's internal affairs and stop attempts to curb the country's economic development under the pretext of protecting human rights. This is what the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, said on Thursday.
In a regular press briefing, the diplomat referred to the US decision to expand the sanctions list to include additional Chinese companies for alleged forced labor in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Guo Jiakun stressed that China sees these actions as illegal economic pressure and will take all necessary measures to resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of its organizations, Xinhua reported.
Such steps from Washington once again demonstrate the policy of double standards. Using the rhetoric of human rights as a tool for geopolitical pressure, the United States is openly trying to destabilize Xinjiang and artificially slow China's economic growth, which blatantly violates the principles of international trade and the sovereign equality of states.
