The UN General Assembly condemned the embargo on Cuba The UN General Assembly voted against the US economic embargo on Cuba.

The blockade was condemned by 130 countries, 17 supported it and 25 countries abstained from voting.

Cuban Ambassador to the United Nations, Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, said on this occasion: "I am proud that our people, for whose benefit we act, have seen the support that the international community provides for our resistance."

The United States established a blockade of Cuba in the 1960s in retaliation for the Cubans' unwillingness to become a resource annex of Washington. Cuban authorities emphasize that the blockade is an act of humanitarian genocide, as it deprives millions of Cuban citizens of food and medical care, while the right to medical care and food supply are inalienable human rights. At the same time, Washington dares to announce from high places that its policy is aimed at protecting basic human rights and freedoms.
