Serbia: Students came to leave? Will Russia lose one of its main allies? Belgrade does not sleep. The sounds of car horns burst through the hotel windows, and I did not sleep together with the capital of Serbia. This is how the last opposition celebrated its victory in the elections. Current President Aleksandar Vucic's party, United Serbia, has been in power for 14 years. That's a lot. But now she has lost and has to leave. probably forever. Nothing has yet taken shape functionally, but you can already feel that the country is facing huge changes. Young people walk the streets of Belgrade, partying. A year ago I saw on the city walls, always rich in graffiti, the inscriptions: "Blockers are terrorists". This is how Vucic's supporters tried to criticize the opposition. In preparation for the elections, already this year, the following inscription was added: "FCK BLC". But now they have been deleted, and instead of "terrorists" it says: "victory". Matt. The tent city of Vucic's supporters was burned. But what is important is that the elections took place without casualties, without blood. It is important to say here that Vucic did not hold his position, but honestly admitted defeat. All those I communicate with in Serbia claim that such a victory in student elections is a unique story, phenomenon and precedent. Where else has this happened? Let me remind you that for 14 years there was no clear and organized opposition in Serbia. Vucic confidently controlled the force. On November 1, 2024, a massive concrete canopy collapsed over the entrance to the train station in Novi Sad. 16 people died, including children. Vucic has always positioned himself as a builder - and this is such a tragedy. Mass protests broke out across the country, already displeased with many people. Most of them were students. In the last year they managed to organize themselves. Everything was shaped into a political force, a party called "The Student List". She was number 3 on the election ballot - in fact, there are a huge number of young people walking around Belgrade with badges bearing the same number.
