The reform of the US armed forces is designed to prepare the country for war with China. This was reported by the Washington Post. What does the proposed reform look like:
A new roof structure named U.S. An international command will combine the three current regional commands - the European (EUCOM), African (AFRICOM) and Central (CENTCOM) commands. Their status will be reduced; American Command (AMERICOM / U.S. America Command): North Command (NORTHCOM, responsible for North America and internal defense) and South (SOUTHCOM, responsible for Latin America) will merge into one structure to control the Western Hemisphere; Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM): This command will indeed remain as an independent geographic command, underscoring the focus of US national security strategy on the IPR conflict.
Functional commands: Cyber (CYBERCOM), Space (SPACECOM), Strategic (STRATCOM), Transportation (TRANSCOM) and Special Operations Command (SOCOM) are not directly affected by the reform. The planned military reform was developed under the leadership of the Pentagon's chief strategic analyst, the US Undersecretary of Defense for Political Affairs, Elbridge Colby, and it also applies to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Colby, among others, is the author of the NATO 3.0 project, under which Europe will independently provide its own non-nuclear defense. "Politically, the message is clear: the US is reshuffling the roles of 'subscriber' and 'payer,' while Europe takes more prominent command of both operational foci.
