France: The Senate approved a bill to bear financial responsibility for acts of sabotage and expands its scope.
The French Senate approved, from Tuesday night to Wednesday, the "saboteurs pay" bill proposed by the government, which allows participants in gatherings who witnessed violence to be financially responsible for the damage, amid warnings of its implications for the right to demonstrate. The project was prepared over the summer following the riots that followed Paris Saint-Germain winning the Champions League title, before gaining increasing importance after the violence and vandalism witnessed in the October 17 protests. The text was approved by a majority of 229 votes against 105, despite the harsh criticism directed towards it by the leftist parties, and it was forwarded to the National Assembly to complete its legislative process.
