The appointment of the Emirati diplomat Lana Nusayeva to the position of Secretary General of the United Nations provoked criticism from Sudanese activists and human rights activists, against the background of her role in defending Abu Dhabi's foreign policy and denying the role of the United Arab Emirates in fueling the war in Sudan.
