Nigeria announces the first case of the Ebola virus.

Nigeria announced on Tuesday that it had recorded its first case of the Ebola virus, as the disease continues to spread across the African continent, prompting a regional health official to warn of an "extremely serious threat". Within months, the Ebola epidemic had become the deadliest in the Democratic Republic of Congo, killing 4,381 people out of more than 9,000 confirmed infections, according to health authorities.
